We recommend the yellowtail appetizer, with a perfect thin cut, deliciously rolled and bursting with flavor. With a causal storefront and plenty to choose from, not to even mention its ice bar with dishes from live scallop to Madai, Mitoushi sushi is worth a visit.

Silver Rice Sushi Roll Shop

638 Park Place, Brooklyn

Owned by two long-time friends, Hideki and Sonny, you’ll find Silver place in Lefferts Garden and Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. Hideki and Sonny are both from Japan and were brought together by food. Now they’ve brought their knowledge of Japanese cuisine to the States and welcomed it to New York. Every sushi roll is made to order and the classic rolls offer the freshest fish and highest quality rice.

When rice is offered, they offer both traditional white rice and their own flaxseed rice which uses ground flaxseeds and white rice for a healthier alternative. They keep in mind allergies and dietary requirements offering gluten-free dishes, vegan dishes, and fish-free dishes, so there is something for everyone.

If you’ve got room for dessert, we also recommend the Saikyo Miso ice cream which is not only extremely addictive but allows you to finish on a truly Japanese authentic experience by offering a Green Tea flavor or even allowing you to add the ice cream to a milkshake to wash it all down with.

Suzume

545 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn

Located on Lorimer Street, Suzume is a sushi restaurant that focuses primarily on ramen and authentic Japanese sushi. With beautiful surroundings, high energy, and friendly staff, they not only offer great food but a warm and welcoming atmosphere. If you find yourself popping along, make sure you check out their extensive drinks menu with items ranging from cocktails to a variety of different flavor gins to beers such as Kona Big Wave, Braven Tiger, Sapporo Reserve, and Harpoon Take.

We recommend not only their famous sushi rolls but also their fish and pork tacos or their pea shoot bok choy salad and shishito peppers. They offer a range of noodle bowls from chilled cucumber, yaoyao ramen, salmon, and Hawaiin fried chicken rice. Not only tasty but also responsibly sourced, their seafood is fully traceable and their pork parts are from antibiotic-free Berkshire hogs and they only use organic chicken. Sounds great right? Bear in mind, however, that Suzume is cash only and credit card payments are only accepted for online orders. There is an ATM available nearby, however.

With one of the most extensive menus in Brooklyn and open seven days a week, Tenda Asian Fusion is one of the best sushi places around. It also offers some of the most affordable prices and a great lunch menu including authentic Japanese and Asian dishes including Pad Thai, traditional sushi rolls, and Malaysian curry.

We recommend trying one of their signature poke bowls such as the vegetable delight or the surf and turf, or even the classic Hawaiian. Tenda promises an experience full of flavor, full of choice, and most importantly, a truly authentic Asian experience.

Sushi Katsuei

210 7th Avenue, Brooklyn

If we’re returning for sushi places that have won ‘sushi of the year’ awards, 2019’s favorite choice was Sushi Katsuei. First opened in 2014, Sushi Katsuei offers both a Sushi and Sashimi Omakase experience at a very affordable price. If the term, ‘Sashimi Omakase’ is new to you, simply put, it is a phrase used by patrons where the selection is left up to the chef, as opposed to ordering yourself off the menu.

The chef will present several dishes from the lightest fare, to the heaviest plate. The chefs at Sushi Katsuei offer modern creativity as well as traditional Japanese Edo-mae style sushi. The fish is also famously flown in from Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, giving you the most authentic Japanese experience.

The nigiri sushi pieces are our top recommendation, offering a flavorsome topping of ingredients and promising an ultimate umami experience. The chefs are polite and friendly and are more than happy to advise you on their best-sellers, so don’t be afraid to ask!

Momo Sushi Shack

43 Bogart Street, Brooklyn

Open from 5 pm every day, Momo Sushi Shack is a laid-back sushi spot that is filled with communal tables and rustic-looking ceilings. They offer traditional Maki, as well as many authentic Japanese small plates such as Asian short ribs, sushi rolls, and sushi-rice croquettes. Momo is also famous for its sushi “bombs” which are scoops of rice formed into bowls and topped with fish.

One popular sushi bomb is the “Pink Bomb”, which includes wild salmon and scallion. They also offer a wide variety of vegetarian dishes and won their own Michelin Guide recommendation, so you’re guaranteed some of the best sushi in the whole of New York if you ever find yourself at Momo.

A Japanese Fusion sushi restaurant located on Smith Street in downtown Brooklyn, Kyoto offers great food at a great price. Offering the freshest sushi and a peaceful atmosphere, Kyoto offers an all-around pleasant experience for all. We recommend the Philadelphia rolls, chicken fried rice, and shrimp tempura rolls.

However, other items on the menu include the classic California rolls, tasty gyozas, and steam edamame beans. Kyoto also takes pride in how accommodating they are. If you want more or less sauce, if you have dietary requirements, or if you want anything swapped, their courteous members of staff will do their very best to ensure every customer has the best dining experience possible.

Fushimi

9316 Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn

Offering traditional Japanese cuisine with inventive French-inspired nouvelle food, it’s no wonder Fushimi was voted best sushi restaurant back in 2017. It is renowned for consistency of the some of the highest quality sushi and since opening has expanded from Bay Ridge to Williamsburg and Staten Island.

With talented chefs and friendly staff, you won’t be disappointed. Its sushi is not only excellent but so is the atmosphere and with such beautiful eye-catching decor and a burgeoning nightlife scene, it’s no surprise that they have been so successful.

The menu offers signature special rolls such as tuna, salmon, eel, and cucumber as well as nigiri sushi or sashimi and an extensive selection of drinks that include great cocktails and martinis. We highly recommend Fushimi if you’re looking for a place that not only offers great food but a place where you can spend the night and celebrate well.

Yamato

168 7th Avenue, Brooklyn

Offering traditional flavors of Asian Fusion, Yamato provides both great service and great food. We would recommend the Shrimp Veggie Tempura, the Salmon skin roll, and the edamame and broccoli bowl but other popular menu items include their spicy tuna rolls, their pork gyozas, and their snow crab claws!

If you’ve got any room at the end and fancy something sweet, the mango mile crepes and tempura ice cream also offer a great finishing touch to the meal!

They also have an open kitchen, allowing you to watch the chefs at work, and the presentation of their dishes is something the restaurant takes absolute utmost pride in. Their attentive team of staff is always on hand to help with recommendations too, so it’s a great place for first-time sushi goers!

Ki Sushi

122 Smith Street, Brooklyn

Located on Smith Street, Ki Suhi offers a warm atmosphere and top-quality sushi. It was Michelin Guide recommended in 2016 and offers a wide selection of hot and cold appetizers such as yellowtail tartare and shrimp tempura, creative maki, and deluxe sushi platters.

We also recommend you try their famous nigiri which includes sea bream, mackerel, and classic tuna. Great value for money, it is a favorite downtown local spot, yet at nighttime, turns into a great place for couples on date nights or family outings.
